PARS is an application aware archiving and backup tool. It is highly configurable and is designed to capture application oriented project data and metadata for long term archiving and backups.
Data Manager’s are able to archive data from many applications and other sources that relate to a specific exploration prospect and store them together. The resultant archive provides a complete and consistent long-term record that tells the complete story of a project.

PARS already interfaces to most mainstream exploration geotechnical applications ( e.g. LandMark’s SeisWorks, OpenWorks and CDA, Schlumberger’s GeoFrame ). New applications can usually be integrated rapidly.
PARS has configurable free-text, manual & automatic metadata collection methods. Descriptions for each archive can be captured with pre-loaded standard lookups to enable accurate future searches. Automatic methods decrease the possibility of user input errors and inconsistency.
The server runs on Unix. It has a Web browser client user interface.
The archives can be written to Enigma’s IDS tape system or disk.
Although designed as a generic, industry independent tool, this product has only been deployed (albeit highly successfully) in Oil Company exploration departments.

PARS has been extended to manage Project Oriented backups by intelligently scheduling archive jobs – this is implemented on many PARS® sites. This gives data managers the ability to bring whole projects back online very quickly after system failures. It has inbuilt rollback features so that live projects can be ‘rewound’ to a point in time. This has been used successfully to ‘mend’ data corruptions and wind back projects where poor processing decisions have been made.
