PARS Migrator is a unique data management tool that allows projects to be moved in their entirety, or selective files, to lower cost secondary or tertiary storage, and still make them available in milliseconds or seconds.
PARS Migrator does not require DMAPI compliance and does not invade a disk system by insisting that it owns the Filesystem. Most importantly, PARS Migrator works the way users do - in projects. Conventional HSM deals only with files but PARS looks at the files and their relationship with other files, data base entries, shared data and global data. It is also pro-active in its decision-making and will forecast datasets for migration prior to the panic that happens in conventional HSM when a disk full trigger is activated - normally in a peak usage period.
Migrator is Project Hierarchical Storage Management application.
Migrator is configurable to identify projects from specific applications that match rules and then migrate complete projects to less expensive tiers of storage. These projects remain visible to the user and are retrievable on demand.
Migrator already interfaces to most mainstream Exploration geotechnical applications ( e.g. LandMark SeisWorks, OpenWorks and CDA, Geoquest’s Geoframe ). It has been successfully deployed in many Oil Company exploration departments.
The server runs on Unix and the migration targets can be Veritas Storage Migrator, Enigma’s IDS tape system and low cost disk storage.
Migrator helps put an end to the tug-of-war between the users and administrators by using an agreed set of migration policies that apply to all projects unless explicit exception is granted on a case by case basis. Once the agreed policies are implemented, Migrator requires minimal administrator intervention and ZERO user input, thereby reducing the human effort involved in data management.
